Sponsored by the St. Thomas More and UNC-Newman Center Spiritual Direction Ministry
Thursdays from 10/08/26 - 11/12/26; 7PM-8:30PM (Virtual)Contemplative prayer is an ancient practice in the Christian faith. Jesus himself repeatedly sought silence and solitude for reflection and conversation with God. As Luke 5:16 notes, “Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.” Since that time, many others have followed in his footsteps: the desert elders, monastics, saints, and mystics. Today, many laypeople and clergy choose contemplative prayer to listen for the Sacred and to receive the peace of the Holy One, God.
In a series of six sessions, we will learn more about the contemplative path and what it has to offer. Among the prayer practices that we will experience and learn about are Lectio Divina, Visio Divina, Centering and Welcoming prayers, chant, beads, breath and other embodied prayer, the Practice of Presence, and more.
This online series will take place on Thursday nights, 7-8:30 pm from Oct. 8 through Nov. 12.
The series is being led by Cate Alexander, a spiritual director and long-time student of the Center for Action and Contemplation, as well as other spiritual directors from the St. Thomas More/Newman Center Spiritual Direction Ministry.
