Livestream Policy, Resources, & FAQ

After more than 5 years, the Catholic Community of St. Thomas More is ending livestream coverage of most weekly Masses. The final date for STM Mass livestreams will be Sunday, June 29. We will continue to offer livestreams for special Masses and Holy Days (e.g. the Paschal Triduum). Can't make it to Mass in person? Below, you will find resources on where else you can find regular livestreams of the Mass right here in the Diocese of Raleigh.

This was a very difficult decision between our Coordinator of Communications, our Manager of Information Technology, and our Pastor. However, there are a number of reasons why we felt it was necessary. 

• Multiple previous attempts were made to recruit and train additional volunteers to stream the Masses; these attempts were unsuccessful. 
• Without dependable community support, this program fell to the same person over and over again. This became an impediment to their participation in the Mass because they were always 'working'.  
• The livestreams began as a recurring feature during the COVID-19 pandemic. While many people are still impacted by the effects of the pandemic, much of our society has moved on from pandemic-era protocols. We want to encourage our parishioners to return to Mass and in-person fellowship as they are able. 
• Homebound parishioners, or those who would otherwise struggle with the accessibility of getting to our Masses have other local resources available to them: the Mass livestreams linked above, and the full support of our Pastoral Care team. We will continue to bring the Sacraments directly to you on request; that will not change.
• Finally, the Diocese of Raleigh Records Retention policy requires that we permanently store all recordings of the Mass. This poses a significant challenge, as we do not have the data storage infrastructure to retain livestreams in perpetuity. Video files take a long time to process, take a long time to download, and take up a lot of space in data storage.
